This series of Gif images is inspired by the short novel The Yellow Wallpaper, written by American writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The story describes a woman who is confined to a room by her husband for her supposed "rest cure" due to her mental illness after giving birth. As she spends more time in the room, she becomes obsessed with the wallpaper, believing there to be a woman trapped within it. As her mental state deteriorates, her fixation on the wallpaper intensifies, ultimately leading to a disturbing and poignant revelation about her oppression and autonomy. I extended this story to some of the East Asian families. Sometimes when a woman becomes a wife or a mother, her identity is overshadowed by the roles of wife and mother. They are expected to prioritize the family over themselves. This kind of unequal family relationship traps them and makes them suffer mentally.
